Faraday’s Law – PhET Simulation

Description: This is a “Faraday’s Flashlight”. A magnet moves up and down inside a coil of wire, inducing a current in the coil that charges a capacitor (direction of the moving magnet does not matter). The capacitor powers the flashlight’s LED.

Equipment:

  • Faraday Flashlight

Demonstration Procedure:

  1. Shake the flashlight up and down fast for about a minute. Then turn it on.

Note: Not a very effective flashlight, but still a cool concept (Involves many elementary E&M principles).
