Description: This demonstration shows what happens when you bring a magnet near a CRT television screen.
The magnet bends the electron beam so the electrons no longer hit the correct phosphors on the screen, which interferes with the colors and the displayed image.

Equipment:

  • Color Cathode Ray Tube (will not work correctly after demo)
  • Large magnet
  • Electric Magnetizer

Setup Procedure:

  1. Using the electric magnetizer, magnetize two bar magnets.
  2. Tune the TV to either a white screen or a video feed.

Demonstration Procedure:

  1. Bring the magnet near the screen and note the changes in color and screen distortions.
