Description: This demonstration shows the difference between a conductor and an insulator.

Equipment:

  • Two Braun Electroscopes
  • Rods and Fur
  • A conductor wire that can be wrapped around both (such as copper wire).
  • An insulator wire that can be wrapped around both (such as string).

Demonstration Procedure:

  1. Connect two electroscopes together with string and charge one electroscope. Note that string is an insulator. (Middle picture)
  2. Connect two electroscopes together with wire and charge one electroscope. Note that wire is a conductor. (Bottom picture)
