A high quality gyroscope with a counterweight is used to show the fundamental precession equation with fair precision.

Setup Procedure
- Set out the gyroscope on a table. If requested, wind the string on the gyroscope in advance.
Demo Procedure
- Present the device to the class, explaining that it is a gyroscope. point out the counter weight setup and how it moves smoothly when nothing is spinning.
- Pull the string on the wheel while holding the gyroscope shaft steady to get it spinning. Choose an angle and release it, and watch as it begins a precession pattern.
- You can also demonstrate how adjusting the angle you release OR adjusting the position of the counter weights will affect the pattern you see form.
